Living in Singapore, I often forget about the turning of the seasons. This is perhaps why I love to travel in the fall with the golds and reds. The colours of Earth shedding her coat to retreat into the underworld are simply magnificent and an undeniable reminder of the splendour and the natural cycles we live in.
Summers. Summers. Everyone just seems happier, lighter. Growing up, summers were three months of holidays – road trips, watching TV in the cool basements, festivals, fireworks, eating ice cream…carefree times. It was time off.
This summer I had planned on a month’s stay on one of the BC islands. Through some very interesting coincidences and turn of events, I ended up in Scandinavia. Solo. I was meant to be there. Even I had forgotten it was I who had last year suggested a family trip there.
This part of the world is beautiful and the warmer summer weather made it easier for someone acclimatized to the tropics to enjoy the outdoors, even attempting Arctic SUP in a wet suit.
Like the summer trip that materialized in the most unexpected way, only coming into focus a few days at a time, this summer issue also turned out a bit different, expanded with stories and images and veiled by the emotions from this Nordic trip that stole my heart. Everything folded into each other ever so nicely – the interviews and stories that I had already lined up and these ones that showed up. Serendipity at play.
It was all about letting go, creating space, and allowing the heart to follow natural rhythms without the pulls of the mind or the greed to jam pack a travel schedule.
